My Dad always wore a stocking hat - even in the heat of the summer because baseball caps were too tight on his head. He is the inspiration for the kind farmer. The words on the stocking hat in the book are Dutch for "tractor store" in honor of his immigrant status from Holland as a young child after World War ll.
My amazing Mom, Judy, who taught me how to bottle feed a calf, bring entire meals out to the fields where hungry workers awaited and how to lay a straight line of irrigiation pipe. She grew up in the city but nonetheless rocked being a farmer's wife. Her consistent encouragement is the reason this book was finally written.
